Every WaterStarters site is co-financed: 15% or more comes from the community or entrepreneur, WaterStarters covers the other 85% as a 42.5% grant and a 42.5% loan (10% interest per year on the reducing balance, up to eight years).

A community co-investment of at least 15% of the total project cost is a required part of the model. That typically works out between KES 450,000 and KES 1,500,000 depending on the project size.
